BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Bridgewater State University wrestling team dropped a pair of matches at a tri-meet hosted by New York University on Saturday afternoon at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility.

The Bears (1-6) lost 39-9 to the host Violets and dropped a 39-10 decision to U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Coast Guard was ranked fifth in the most recent IntermatWrestle.com Division III poll.

Junior 125-pounder Wilson Gomes (Fogo, Cape Verde) went 2-0 on the afternoon for the Bears. Gomes (19-7) earned a forfeit victory in the match against NYU, and posted an 11-3 major decision over Brock Laggini of Coast Guard.

Senior 174-pounder Fox Maxwell (Winchester, Mass.) and senior heavyweight Ryan Higgins (Billerica, Mass.) each went 1-1 on the day. Maxwell (19-7) recorded a 4-3 decision against NYU's Justin Leonard, while Higgins pinned (3:46) Brian Morel of Coast Guard.

Bridgewater State hosts a wrestling quad on Friday, November 11th (5:00 PM) as the Bears welcome Rhode Island College, Trinity College and AIC to John J. Kelly Gymnasium.
