Kylie Grassi Named MASCAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University freshman guard Kylie Grassi has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week.

A native of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Grassi averaged 18.3 points, three rebounds, 2.3 assists and three steals in a 2-1 MASCAC week for the Bears while shooting an impressive 88.5% (23-26) from the free throw line.

Grassi scored a career-high 23 points to go along with four rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot in a 95-86 win at Westfield State, and tallied 15 points, four assists and four steals in a 97-42 victory over Fitchburg State. She also notched 17 points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block in a 75-68 overtime setback to Framingham State. 

In 13 games this season, Grassi is averaging 7.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 81% (34-42) from the charity stripe. She currently leads the MASCAC in free throw shooting.

Grassi is the Bears' third MASCAC Rookie of the Week this season as she joins teammates Jannise Avelino (Peabody, Mass.) and Arielle Cleveland (Groveland, Mass.).

The BSU women’s basketball team is presently 10-6 on the season and 2-1 in the MASCAC. The Bears travel to MCLA on Wednesday evening for a 5:30 conference game with the Trailblazers.
