Women's Basketball Cruises to 105-42 Win Over MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Senior center Destiny Fitzgerald (Medford, Mass.) posted a double-double with a season-high 26 points to go along with 13 rebounds to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University women's basketball team to a 105-42 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over MCLA on Monday evening at the Amsler Campus Center Gym.

The Bears improve to 14-7 on the season with their fourth straight win and 6-2 in the MASCAC, while the Trailblazers fall to 1-18 overall and 1-7 in conference play. Bridgewater reached the century scoring mark for the first time this season.

Fitzgerald connected on 12 of 18 field goal attempts in just 14 minutes of action and eight of her game-high 13 boards came off the offensive glass. The double-double marked the 16th of her career.

Senior guard Olivia Dziadyk (Wakefield, Mass.) and freshman forward Eryn Rice (Medway, Mass.) added 11 points apiece off the bench for the Bears, while junior guard Sydney Bradbury (East Bridgewater, Mass.) tallied ten points on perfect 4 of 4 shooting including a pair of three-pointers. All 13 Bears who appeared in the game scored, while the 11 points marked a season-high for the rookie Rice who also added six rebounds and a pair of assists.

Junior guard Brooke DiGennaro (Pittsfield, Mass.) paced the host Trailblazers with 17 points, while senior guard Shannon Carney (Averill Park, N.Y.) checked in with 13 points.

Bridgewater State scored the first 18 points of the game and led 34-8 after the first quarter. The Bears held a 52-23 lead after the break and got up by as many as 63 points in the second half including the final score of 105-42.

Bridgewater shot 57% (42-74) for the game, including 4-for-9 from behind the arc, and went 17-for-20 (85%) at the free throw line. The Bears outscored the Trailblazers, 64-10, in the paint, and finished with a decided 58-17 rebounding advantage with an 18-2 edge on the offensive glass.

MCLA shot just 28% (16-57) from the floor and went 3-for-19 (16%) from three-point range and 7-for-12 (58%) at the charity stripe. The Trailblazers turned the ball over 23 times.

Notes: Bridgewater is now 73-8 all-time versus MCLA dating back to the 1983-1984 campaign. The Bears have also won each of the last 21 meetings between the two teams…The 63-point margin of victory marked the highest for the Bears since a 104-33 win over Framingham State University on February 20, 1990...The win marked the 350th in the 25-year coaching career of BSU skipper, Bridgett Casey.
