Women's Basketball Drops 65-46 Decision to RIC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rhode Island College women's basketball team posted a 65-46 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Tuesday evening at The Murray Center.

The Anchorwomen, who received votes in the D3hoops.com Preseason Poll, even their 2021 record at 3-3 with the win, while the Bears fall to 5-2.

Junior guard Antonia Corsinetti (Johnston, R.I.) paced the hosts with a game-high 21 points to go along with two rebounds, two assists and three steals. Corsinetti connected on 6 of 12 field goal attempts, including 4-for-6 from behind the arc, and went 5-for-6 at the free throw line.

Junior guard Sydney Bradbury (East Bridgewater, Mass.) scored 16 points, pulled down eight rebounds and recorded a pair of steals to lead the way for Bridgewater State. Classmate Sophia Gaucher (Lakeville, Mass.) added nine points, four rebounds, a steal and an assist for the Bears.

RIC led from start to finish. The Anchorwomen outscored the Bears 16-3 over the first six minutes of the game and held a 20-7 lead at the end of one. Six different players scored for the hosts in the first quarter including Corsinetti and freshman forward Angelina Nardolillo (Hinsdale, N.H.) who tallied six points apiece. Bridgewater pulled to within nine points on two occasions in the second quarter but could get no closer. RIC would take a 32-21 lead into the intermission and maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way. The Anchorwomen got up by as many as 21 points (49-28) in the second half before settling for the 65-46 win.

Both teams struggled with their shooting on the evening. The Anchorwomen shot 32% (20-62) from the floor, 39% (7-18) from three-point range and 53% (18-34) at the free throw line. The Bears connected on just 26% (14-54) of their field goal attempts and went 4-for-20 (20%) from behind the arc and 14-for-27 (52%) at the charity stripe.

The Bears are back in action next Tuesday night (Nov. 30) when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for a seven o'clock game with the Corsairs. The Anchorwomen head to Wesleyan University on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 28) to take on the Cardinals at two.
