Madelyn Klingel Named MASCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore righthander Madelyn Klingel has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Klingel went 1-0 in two appearances in the circle for the Bears last week. The Windsor, Connecticut product gave up just one unearned run on eight hits with two walks and ten strikeouts in 12 innings work as she posted a 0.00 earned run average.

Klingel tossed a five-inning no-hitter in an 8-0 MASCAC win over Mass. Maritime allowing just a walk with seven strikeouts. She also gave up just one unearned run on eight hits over seven innings with a walk and a pair of strikeouts in a 2-1 conference victory over Worcester State to help secure the MASCAC regular season title.

In 12 appearances in the circle this season for the Bears including ten starts, Klingel is 3-2 with three complete games and a pair of shutouts to go along with one save. She has also struck out 35 batters in 49 innings of work and checks in with a 2.57 earned run average.

Klingel ranks fifth among the MASCAC leaders in ERA and is also tenth in strikeouts per seven innings pitched (5.0). She is the third BSU softball hurler to earn MASCAC Pitcher of the week honors joining seniors Kelley Reichert (Milford, Mass.) and Laura Hatch (Middleboro, Mass.).

The BSU softball team wrapped up regular season play with an overall record of 21-14-1 including a 12-2 mark in the MASCAC standings. The Bears captured their 26th conference regular season title and will host the MASCAC Tournament on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
