Softball Fall to Muskingum at The Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Bridgewater State University softball team dropped a 10-2 decision to Muskingum University on Sunday at The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Bears game against Northland College was cancelled.

The Bears fall to 1-2 on the season with the setback. The game marked the season opened for the Fighting Muskies.

Hannah Smith tossed four shutout innings in the circle for Muskingum. Smith (1-0) gave up just one hit, did not issue a walk and struck out five.

The Fighting Muskies banged out 14 hits in the contest and took advantage of five Bridgewater State errors. Taylor Gallentine (2-3, RBI), Katie Osburn (2-4, R), Claire Warschauer (2-3, SB, 2R, RBI), and Mickayla Malone (2-3, 2B, 3B, R, 2RBI) led the way for Muskingum with two hits apiece.

Trailing 10-0 in the bottom of the fifth, the Bears sent seven batters to the plate, including six pinch hitters, to push across two runs and nearly extend the game. Emily Marcotte, Molly Thibaudeau and Amelia Blake all reached safely in the inning, while Kelley Reichert, who entered the game in relief of starter Madelyn Klingel, connected for an RBI single.

The Bears' Florida trip to The Spring Games continues on Monday as they take on Simmons University (9:00 AM) and Alfred University (1:45 PM) in Clermont.
