BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Jennifer Shaw (Brockton, Mass.) rapped out a pair of homers and drove in seven runs to lead Bridgewater State to a sweep of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday afternoon by scores of 20-0 in the opener and 15-1 in the nightcap in games played at Alison Rollins Field.

The visiting Bears (13-19, 5-5 MASCAC) used an 11-run outburst in the fourth inning of the opener to break things open, as Shaw's grand slam capped the rally as part of a 15-hit attack.

Junior Kate Youngstrom (Holden, Mass.) and sophomore Melissa Harmon (Shrewsbury, Mass.) combined for three hits and five RBI in the opener for Bridgewater State, which also received two hits each from junior Jordan McDermott (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman Kelly Fahey (Milton, Mass.).

Senior Tracey Sanko (Windsor, Conn.) picked up the win on the mound for the visitors in fanning six on the day in earning her second triumph of the season.

Sophomores Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) and Sarah Click (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) rapped out singles in the opening setback for the host Buccaneers (1-21, 0-12 MASCAC), as freshman Jaclyn Labrecque (Sutton, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound.

Bridgewater State used a seven-run fourth frame to open up matters in the nightcap, as junior Michaela Ferreira (Fall River, Mass.) collected two hits and three RBI for the Bears, who also received two hits and two RBI each off the bats of Shaw and Harmon.

McDermott and junior Shanna Lathrop (Hopedale, Mass.) added two hits as well for the visitors as part of a 16-hit attack in support of sophomore Meghan Dunn (Colchester, Conn.), who allowed an unearned run and fanned 10 to improve to 9-6 on the season.

Labrecque plated Massachusetts Maritime's lone tally in the fourth inning after walking a scoring on an error, as Johnson and senior Katie Maynard (Chelmsford, Mass.) each collected singles for the Buccaneers.  Sophomore Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) went the distance in suffering the setback inside the circle for the hosts.

Massachusetts Maritime closes out the 2011 season on Saturday afternoon by heading to Worcester, Mass. to take on Worcester State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader that begins at Noon, while Bridgewater State travels to Salem, Mass. on Saturday afternoon for a MASCAC twinbill with Salem State that also begins at noon.
