Men's Cross Country Places 20th at DIII East Region Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) placed 48th out of field of 234 runners to lead the Bridgewater State University men's cross country team at the 2021 NCAA Division III East Region Cross Country Championships held on Saturday at Franklin Park.

McBirney covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 27:34.

BSU senior Sam Steere (West Kingston, R.I.) placed 69th with a time of 28:23, while freshman Kenny Goodwin (Chelmsford, Mass.) crossed the line in 30:00 (129th overall) to round out the Bears top three finishers.

Junior Tyler Morris (Weston, Mass.) of Colby College won the individual championship with a time of 25:01.

MIT captured the team title while Colby College, Tufts University, Bates College, WPI and Bowdoin College rounded out the top six teams at the regional. MIT automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships which will take place next Saturday at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Bears finished 20th in the team standings.
