Men’s Cross Country Places 26th at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Freshman Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) placed 53rd out of a field of 256 runners to lead the Bridgewater State University men's cross country team at the 48th Annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational in which all three NCAA divisions were represented on Saturday.

McBirney completed the five-mile course in a time of 26:09.66. Senior Matysas Csiki-Fejer (Manchester, Mo.) of Suffolk University won the race with a time of 23:36.30.

The Bears finished 26th in the team standings. UMass Lowell captured the team title followed by Trinity College in second place and WPI in third.

Freshman Kenny Goodwin (Chelmsford, Mass.) was the next Bear to cross the finish line as he placed 143rd with a time of 27:48.20. BSU sophomore Sam Steere (West Kingston, R.I.) checked in with a time of 27:52.00 to finish 147th overall, while junior Ryan Goldman (Franklin, Mass.) posted a time of 27:55.80 to place 151st.

Following an off weekend, the Bears will compete at the Franklin Pierce 9th Annual Bruce Kirsh Cup on Saturday, October 2nd. The meet will take at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Contoocook, New Hampshire.
