BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University junior Stephen Spofford has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Spofford won the individual title in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.06 seconds this past weekend at the MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Chelmsford, Massachusetts product also ran a leg on the Bears’ first-place 4x100-meter relay (42.40) and placed second in the 200-meter dash (22.24) as he helped the Bears capture the program’s sixth straight MASCAC outdoor crown.

Spofford currently ranks in the East Region in the 400 and 19th in the 200.

The MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week honor marks the fifth of Spofford's career and second outdoor distinction.

Qualifying members of the BSU men's outdoor track & field team will compete later this week at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Mount Holyoke College.
