BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- After finishing first in their individual event or relay this past weekend at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships, 14 different Bridgewater State University student-athletes have been officially named to the 2024 All-MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Team.
Earning the honor for the Bears in the individual track events are Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) in both the 800-meter run and 1,500-meter run; Kyle Ackroyd (Charlestown, R.I.) in the 10,000-meter run; Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) in the 110-meter hurdles; Michael Neitlich (Middleboro, Mass.) in the 400-meter hurdles; and Stephen Spofford (Chelmsford, Mass.) in the 400-meter dash.
Spofford also garnered All-MASCAC accolades in the 4x100-meter relay along with Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.), Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) and Michael Young (Shrewsbury, Mass.).
The foursome of Neitlich, Nathan Branco (Fairhaven, Mass.), Charles Dakai (Millville, Mass.) and Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.) form the All-MASCAC 4x400-meter relay squad.
Earning All-MASCAC status In the field events are Jason Dann (Reading, Mass.) in the discus throw as well as the hammer throw; Thomas Barinelli (Tewksbury, Mass.) in the long jump; and Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) in the shot put.
The BSU men's oudoor track & field team captured the program's sixth straight MASCAC championship and ninth in team history. The Bears also won outdoor conference championships in 1996, 2012, 2013, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023. The MASCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet was not contested in 2020.
McBirney (1,500), Adigwe (110H), Neitlich (400H, 4x400), Spofford (200, 400, 4x100), DeAndrade (100, 200, 4x100), Matias (100, 4x100), Young (200), Branco (4x400), Dakai (4x400), Grace (4x400), Dann (DT, HT), Barinelli (HJ, LJ, 110H) and Stalters (DT, JT, SP) will compete on Friday and Saturday at the Division III New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Mount Holyoke College.
