Wysong, Lighten, Stalters Lead BSU Men’s Track & Field at NEICAAA Championships

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Graduate student Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.), senior Matthew Lighten (Dalton, Mass.) and junior Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) each set school records to lead the Bridgewater State University men's track & field team during the opening day of the 2022 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Bryant University.

Wysong broke his own school record and placed second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:39.58 to earn All-New England honors. Wysong, who was the top Division III runner in the event, eclipsed his previous mark of 30:40.17 set earlier this season at the BSU Bears Invitational.

Lighten finished fourth in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash and broke his own school record with a time of 10.70 seconds. Lighten bettered his previous mark of 10.71 seconds set earlier this season at the MASCAC Championships. He also finished fifth in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.41 seconds. Lighten advanced to Saturday's finals in both the 100 and the 200.

Stalters placed third and earned All-New England honors in the javelin with a BSU record-setting toss of 218 feet, 11 inches (66.74m). Stalters, who was the top Division III student-athlete in the event, smashed his own school mark of 207 feet, four inches (63.19m) set earlier this season also at the MASCAC Championships.

Stalters currently ranks fifth in all of Division III in the javelin.

The Bears are in seventh place (14 pts.) after day one of the two-day championship meet. Southern Connecticut leads the way with 45.5 points, while URI is second with 38 points and MIT rounds out the top three teams with 24.5 points.

Day two of the NEICAAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will get underway tomorrow morning at ten.
