Men's Track & Field Competes at Tufts Sunshine Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Several members of the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team competed on Saturday at the Tufts Sunshine Classic.

Freshman Gavin Weldon (Taunton, Mass.) placed third in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Weldon posted a career-best time of 11.18 seconds in the finals of the 100, and recorded a time of 22.23 seconds in the 200.

The Bears' foursome of Weldon, sophomore Michael Young (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and seniors Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) and Matthew Lighten (Dalton, Mass.) finished second in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 43.12 seconds.

Freshman Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.08.

Junior Dimetri Morris (North Andover, Mass.) finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.36 seconds, while freshman Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) was third in the event with a time of 15.54 seconds. Adigwe also placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 56.84 seconds.

The Bears finished fifth in the team standings at the meet with 58 points. Host Tufts won the team title with 212 points, while UMass Dartmouth (138 pts.) and Plymouth State University (96 pts.) rounded out the top three teams.

Next Saturday, the BSU outdoor track & field teams will host the MASCAC Championships at Swenson Field.
