Men's Track & Field Competes at 13th Annual Eastern Invitational

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team placed second in the team standings on Friday at the 13th Annnual Eastern Invitational hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University.

The Bears registered 119 points at the meet. Host Eastern Connecticut won the team title with 186 points.

Junior Exondus Barnes (East Providence, R.I.) captured top honors in both the long jump and the high jump to pace the Bears at the meet. Barnes posted a career-best mark of 23 feet, 4.5 inches (7.12m) in the long jump and recorded a leap of six feet, 2.75 inches (1.90m) in the high jump.

Junior Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) tossed the javelin over 200 feet for the second straight meet as he placed first in the event with a distance of 200 feet, one inch (60.99m)

Sophomore Sam Steere (West Kingston, R.I.) was the first runner to cross the finish line in the 1,500-meter run as he posted a time of 4:18.91.

Junior Jacob Belcher (Halifax, Mass.) posted a career-best mark of 155 feet, eight inches (47.44m) to win the hammer throw. Sophomore Nathaniel Packer (Tisbury, Mass.) finished third in the hammer with a distance of 137 feet, nine inches (41.99m).

Junior Oliver Erickson (Mansfield, Mass.) won the shot put with a toss of 45 feet, 0.25 inches (13.72m), while junior Jack Galvin (Braintree, Mass.) placed third in the event with a mark of 42 feet, 10.25 inches (13.06m).

Graduate student Dylan Brobisky (West Warwick, R.I.) finished third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:13.30.

Several members of the BSU men's outdoor track & field team will compete tomorrow at the Tufts Sunshine Classic.
