Eight Bears Compete at Tufts Final Qualifying Meet

MEDFORD, Mass. – Eight members of the Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team competed on Saturday at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet held at the Gantcher Center.

Senior Matthew Lighten (Dalton, Mass.) captured the meet title in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time (non-banked track) of 22.05 seconds. He also placed fourth in the finals of the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.99 seconds.

With results still coming in from last chance meets from across the country, Lighten currently ranks 18th in all of Division III in the 200.

Freshman Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) placed first in the 60-meter hurdles with a finals time of 8.25 seconds, while sophomore Dimetri Morris (North Andover, Mass.) was second in the event with a finals time of 8.33 seconds. Morris also posted a career-best time of 8.32 seconds in the preliminaries.

Adigwe is currently 21st in all of Division III in the hurdles.

Graduate student Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.) capped off his indoor career by breaking the school record in the 3,000-meter run. Wysong placed sixth in the event with a time of 8:36.91 as he eclipsed the previous BSU indoor mark of 8:42.94 set by Andy Sukeforth in 2015.

Junior Exondus Barnes (East Providence, R.I.) placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of six feet, 3.25 inches (1.91m).

Junior Blake Kerwin (Rehoboth, Mass.) and sophomore Thomas Barinelli (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in the long jump. Kerwin posted a mark of 21 feet, 4.75 inches (6.52m), while Barinelli checked in at 21 feet, two inches (6.45m).

Senior Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) finished tenth in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.28 seconds.

The NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships which will take place on Friday March 11th and Saturday, March 12th at the JDL Fast Track in Greensboro, North Carolina. The top 20 student-athletes in individual events qualify for the national championship meet.

The official list of men's accepted entries for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships will be released on Sunday on ncaa.com.
