Five Bears Earn All-New England Honors at DIII New England Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Five Bears earned All-New England honors to lead the Bridgewater State University men's track & field team at the 2022 Division III New England Indoor Track & Field Championships held on Saturday at Middlebury College.

Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) placed second in the 60-Meter Hurdles with a time of 8.23 seconds. Adigwe was the highest finishing Bridgewater State athlete of the day. Dimetri Morris (North Andover, Mass.) also scored points in the 60-meter hurdles as he was the sixth runner to cross the line with a time of 8.38 seconds.

In the long jump, sophomore Thomas Barinelli (Tweksbury, Mass.) finished fifth with a leap of 21 feet, 10.75 inches (6.67m), while in the high jump junior Exondus Barnes (East Providence, R.I.) placed third after jumping six feet, five inches (1.96m).

To finish off the day, senior Matthew Lighten (Dalton, Mass.) finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with a finals time of 22.73 seconds.

The Bears finished in 11th place in the team standings with 24 points.

All told, Bridgewater State had six All-New England performers during the two-day regional championship meet as graduate student Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.) placed seventh and broke his own school record in the 5,000-meter run on Friday.

Next Saturday, select members of the BSU men's indoor track & field team will compete at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet.
