BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore Robby Cooney has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Tennis Player & Rookie of the Week.

A native of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Cooney went 2-0 at number one singles and 1-1 at second doubles in a perfect 2-0 week for the Bears which included a pair of key Little East wins over Rhode Island College and Western Connecticut State University.

Cooney battled back from a set down to post a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over three-time LEC Player of the Week Noah Morin of RIC in the Bears' 7-2 victory over the Anchormen. Cooney also breezed to a 6-0, 6-2 straight set win againt WestConn's Kevin Tenesaca and teamed with Matthew Krampf for an 8-3 victory in doubles play as the Bears downed the Wolves, 7-2.

In five matches this season, Cooney is 4-1 in singles play competing exclusively at the top flight with a 2-0 Little East mark. He has also paired with Krampf for a 3-2 record (1-1 LEC) at second doubles.

The BSU men's tennis team is currently 4-3 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in the Little East standings. The Bears entertain Wentworth on Monday afternoon at 3:30.
