BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Bridgewater State University men's tennis team blanked Castleton University, 9-0, in a Little East Conference (LEC) match on Saturday afternoon at the Vermont Sport and Fitness Club.

The Bears improve to 5-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Little East, while the Spartans fall to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Bridgewater swept the three doubles matches and captured all six singles flights.

In doubles play, seniors Jeff Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) and Colin Lamusta (Lynnfield, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-0 win at the top spot, while classmates Kendan Ziegler (Hadley, N.Y.) and Sean Nutter (Mattapoisett, Mass.) recorded a tough 8-5 decision at the second flight. Senior Darius Desnoes (Ithaca, N.Y.) and junior Charles Fiske (Taunton, Mass.) paired up for an 8-2 victory at number three.

Pavao (6-1, 6-0), Lamusta (6-0, 6-1), Ziegler (6-1, 6-0), Nutter (6-1, 6-1) and Desnoes (6-0, 6-0) each recorded straight set wins in singles play at the first, second, third, fourth and sixth flights, respectively. BSU junior Robert Dwyer (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) won his opening set, 7-5, at number five before his opponent was forced to retire due to injury.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they entertain Thomas College at 3:30. The Spartans host Little East foe Rhode Island College next Saturday afternoon at one.

Notes: The two teams were meeting for just the second time since Castleton joined the LEC beginning with the 2018-2019 academic year. The Bears defeated the Spartans during the 2019 season, 6-3, also at Castleton.
