Men's Swimming & Diving Captures Inaugural Little East Championship Crown

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team made history over the past three days at the Boston Sports Institute, as the Bears captured the first-ever Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Swimming & Diving Championship title.

The Bears totaled 945 points to take home the team title. Keene State College was the runner-up in the team standings with 858 points while Eastern Connecticut State University (560 pts.) rounded out the top three.

Bridgewater State captured five individual titles and one relay crown on Tuesday.

The foursome of senior Joshua Hernandez (Cranston, R.I.), sophomores Brennan Gravanda (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Joseph Pervier (Baldwinvile, Mass.), and junior Chris Anastasiades (Wakefield, Mass.) captured top honors in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:13.43.

Hernandez, Pervier and Anastasiades also picked up Little East individual titles. Hernandez placed first in the 100 freestyle with a career-best time of 48.06 seconds, while Pervier was the first to touch the wall in the 50 backstroke with a career-best time of 25.61 seconds. Anastasiades finished first in the 100 individual medley with a career-best time of 53.63 seconds.

Sophomore Cooper Castellone (South Windsor, Conn.) and junior Luc Durand (Marblehead, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' Little East champions for day three of the meet. Castellone won the 200 breaststroke with a career-best time of 2:12.55, while Durand posted a career-best time of 2:01.90 to win the 200 butterfly.

All told, the Bears earned 11 individual championships during the three-day meet and three relay titles.Hernandez led the way with three individual and two relay, while Anastasiades, Castellone and Pervier eached finished with two individual and two relay.
