Men's Swimming & Diving in First Place After Day One of Little East Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team is in first place after day one of the three-day Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Swimming & Diving Championships held at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley.

The Bears currently have 321 points at the championship meet as they hold a slight edge over second-place Keene State College (319 pts.).

The BSU 400-medley relay squad featuring sophomores Cooper Castellone (South Windsor, Conn.), Brennan Gravanda (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Joseph Pervier (Baldwinville, Mass.) and junior Luc Durand (Marblehead, Mass.) capped off the day by capturing the Little East title in the event with a time of 3:38.59.

Castellone also earned the LEC crown in the 50 breaststroke with a career-best time of 27.77 seconds.

Senior Joshua Hernandez (Cranston, R.I.) and freshman Chase Simao (Stonington, Conn.) also picked up Little East individual titles for the Bears. Hernandez placed first in the 50 freestyle with a career-best time of 21.82 seconds, while Simao touched the wall in a career-best time of 2:03.08 to win the 200 individual medley.

The three-day championship meet continues on Monday morning with events getting underway at ten o'clock.
