Men's Swimming & Diving Sinks Gordon, 162-42

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team cruised to a 162-42 victory over visiting Gordon College on Saturday afternoon at the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears improve to 2-0 in dual meet competition on the young season. The Fighting Scots (0-1) were competing in their first meet of the season.

Bridgewater State posted the top time or score in all 15 events.

The Bears' 200-medley relay squad featuring senior Joshua Hernandez (Cranston, R.I.), junior Chris Anastasiades (Wakefield, Mass.) and sophomores Cooper Castellone (South Windsor, Conn.) Brennan Gravanda (Wilbraham, Mass.) won the event with a time of 1:45.51.

Hernandez, Anastasiades, junior Ben Wilkinson (Reading, England) and sophomore Joseph Pervier (Baldwinville, Mass.) combined to post a time of 3:23.51 in the 400 freestyle relay to close out the meet.

Anastasiades also won two individual events as he placed first in the 50 breaststroke (28.20) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.40). Hernandez captured top honors in the 50 freestyle (22.46) and was the first to touch the wall in the 50 butterfly (25.04), while Gravanda placed first in the 50 backstroke (27.53), Pervier in the 100 freestyle (52.37) and Castellone posted the top time in the 200 individual medley (2:13.76).

Junior Luc Durand (Marblehead, Mass.) paced the Bears with three individual event wins. Durand was the top performer in the 1,000 freestyle (10:43.67), 100 butterfly (58.92) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.93).

Bridgewater State also received event victories from junior Michael Losardo (Pittsfield, Mass.) in the 200 freestyle (1:58.27) and junior Emerson Kerns (Norwood, Mass.) in the one-meter diving competition (174.90 pts.), while freshman Chase Simao (Stonington, Conn.) was the first to touch the wall in the 500 freestyle (5:20.57).

The Bears did not score for the last four events with the meet victory well in hand.

The BSU swimming & diving teams will be back in action next Saturday afternoon when the Bears entertain Roger Williams University at two o'clock.
