Men's Soccer Falls to UMass Dartmouth in Overtime, 1-0

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Senior midfielder Goncalo Roias (Fall River, Mass.) scored the game's only goal in the 99th minute to lift the UMass Dartmouth men's soccer team to a dramatic 1-0 overtime victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Wednesday night at Cressy Field.

The Corsairs improve to 6-5-2 on the season with the non-conference win, while the Bears fall to 5-9. UMass is 12-24-6 versus Bridgewater State since 1979.

With time winding down in the ten-minute overtime session, senior forward Will Cochran (Lunenburg, MAss.) sent a pass across the field to Roias, who launched a deep shot from 20 yards out that found the left side of the net.

UMass finished with a 23-12 shot advantage for the game as well as a 6-2 edge in cornerkick attempts.

BSU junior forward Robson Montrond (Brockton, Mass.) attempted four of the Bears' five shots on frame.

Senior goalkeeper Jake Castro (Swansea, Mass.) turned aside all five shots he faced to post his fifth shutout of the season between the pipes for the Corsairs. BSU senior netminder William Russell (Sandwich, Mass.) made a season-high ten saves in the setback.

The Bears host Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Mass. Maritime Academy on Friday afternoon at 3:30, while the Corsairs entertain Little Easy Conference (LEC) foe Castleton University on Saturday at noon. Both teams will be celebrating Senior Day.
