Men's Soccer Falls to Salve Regina, 5-0

NEWPORT, R.I. -- The Salve Regina University men's soccer team posted a 5-0 shutout victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Wednesday night at Toppa Field.

The Seahawks, who are ranked fifth in the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Region Two Poll, improve to 8-3-1 on the season, while the Bears fall to 3-7. Salve is 3-1-1 versus the Bears over the last five seasons.

Senior forward Alessandro Oggiano (Stoughton, Mass.) paced Salve Regina with two goals and two assists, while senior midfielder Rich Ventura (Floral Park, N.Y.) and freshman midfielders Danny Bond (Bristol, Conn.) and Ethan David (Stratford, Conn.) also scored for the hosts. Sophomore midfielder Jordan Borges (Milford, Mass.) checked in with a pair of assists.

The Seahawks finished with a decided 20-5 shot advantage for the game as well as a 13-1 edge in corner kick attempts.

Salve senior goalkeeper Nathan Reid (Magnolia, Del.) made three saves to record his fourth shutout of the season.

Senior netminder William Russell (Sandwich, Mass.) turned aside nine shots in the setback for Bridgewater State.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon. The Bears entertain Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Worcester State University at noon, while the Seahawks travel to Wentworth for a three o'clock Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup with the Leopards.
