BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior forward Robson Montrond (Brockton, Mass.) tallied a pair of goals to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University men's soccer team to a 3-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over Fitchburg State University on Saturday morning at Elliot Field.

The Bears improve to 3-6 on the season and 1-2 in the MASCAC with the win, the Falcons fall to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in conference play. Bridgewater State now holds a 25-14-6 advantage in the all-time series which began back in 1978.

Montrond snuck a close-range shot past the Fitchburg keeper off a crossing pass from grad forward Kevin Roberts (Medway, Mass.) to open the scoring in the 17th minute. Junior defender Joseph Madden Jr. (Milford, Mass.) picked up the secondary assist on the strike.

Freshman midfielder Carsten Boloz (Southborough, Mass.) potted his first collegiate goal in the 57th minute to extend the BSU lead to 2-0. Junior forward David Nelson (East Bridgewater, Mass.) threaded the needle with a long pass from the right side and Boloz one-timed a left footer under the crossbar.

Montrond made it a 3-0 game with his team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 71st minute. Off a short corner, senior midfielder Ryan O'Donnell (Westerly, R.I.) headed the ball to the front of the cage. Sophomore defender Jacob Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) then bounced a header to Montrond who headed the ball under the crossbar.

Fitchburg freshman forward Bennet Jorgensen (Cologne, Germany) converted a penalty kick to break up the shutout bid in the 78th minute.

Bridgewater State held a 23-8 shot advantage for the game as well as a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper William Russell (Sandwich, Mass.) recorded his first win in a BSU uniform as he made five saves between the pipes.
