Men's Soccer Posts 2-1 Win Over Eastern Nazarene

QUINCY, Mass. – The visiting Bridgewater State University men's soccer team edged Eastern Nazarene College, 2-1, on Tuesday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy.

The Bears improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Lions fall to 3-3. The game marked the first matchup between the two teams in 30 years.

Bridgewater State jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an own goal less than two minutes into the contest. Freshman midfielder Carsten Boloz (Southborough, Mass.) sent a well-placed corner kick inside the six and the ball deflected off an ENC defender and into the back of the net.

The score remained that way until the second half when junior forward Robson Montrond (Brockton, Mass.) staked the Bears to a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute. Boloz set up the goal with a nice feed to Montrond who beat the keeper one-one-one.

Sophomore midfielder Leonardo Castro (Katy, Texas) cut the deficit in half when he got the Lions on the board in the 55th minute. Off a short pass from junior defender Manuel Vibot (Valladolid, Spain), Castro beat a couple of defenders and ripped a shot under the crossbar from the right side.

Eastern Nazarene held a 25-16 shot advantage for the game, while Bridgewater State finished with a 13-11 edge in corner kick attempts.

BSU sophomore goalkeeper Lukas Ekmanis (Baxter, Tenn.) turned aside seven shots to record his second win of the season.

Senior netminder Tyler Ferreira (Berkley, Mass.) made seven saves between the pipes for the Lions.

The Bears open Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Salem State University for a two o'clock game with the Vikings. The Lions are off until next Tuesday night when they head to Bates College to take on the Bobcats at eight.
