Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to Wentworth

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Wentworth men's soccer team posted a 2-1 victory over Bridgewater State University on Saturday evening at Swenson Field.

The Leopards improve to 3-2 on the season while the host Bears fall to 1-2. Wentworth holds a 2-0 lead in the all-time series as the two teams met for the first time in 2019.

Senior defender Erik Treble (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) opened the scoring with a header goal off a corner kick in the 16th minute. Treble's goal came off a corner attempt from classmate John Dauphin (Yorba Linda, Calif.).

The Leopards took a 1-0 lead into the break after outshooting the Bears, 11-3, in the first half.

Sophomore defender Nile Keiller (Bowie, Md.) ripped a shot off from 25 yards out that went off the crossbar and in to make it a 2-0 game in the 75th minute. Freshman forward Nick Lenz (Danbury, Conn.) and senior midfielder TJ Prouty (Glendora, Calif.) assisted on the goal.

The Bears broke up the shutout bid with just six seconds remaining in regulation as freshman forward Ethan Lafontant Chelmsford, Mass.) got behind the Wentworth defense off a nice thru-ball from freshman midfielder Brett Ghelfi (Halifax, Mass.). Lafontant beat the goalie one-on-one from the left side with a shot inside the far post for his first collegiate goal. BSU sophomore netminder Lukas Ekmanis (Baxter, Tenn.) picked up the secondary assist on the scoring strike.

Wentworth finished with a 20-9 shot advantage for the game as well as a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Louis Quintero (Boston, Mass.) turned aside four shots between the pipes for the Leopards, while Ekmanis made seven saves in goal for the Bears.

The Bears hit the road next Tuesday evening for a seven o'clock contest with Eastern Nazarene College. The game will be played at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy. The Leopards are also in action on Tuesday night at seven as they entertain Lesley University.
