Field Hockey Falls to Keene State, 9-0

KEENE, N.H. – The Keene State College field hockey team dominated play from start to finish as the Owls posted a 9-0 shutout victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at the Owl Athletic Complex.

The Owls improve to 4-8 on the season and 4-1 in the Little East, while the Bears fall to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Keene State has won each of the last 12 meetings of the two teams and holds a 24-4 advantage in the all-time series.

The Owls held a decided 28-2 shot advantage for the game as well as a 23-3 edge in penalty corners.

Junior forward Ellie Hunkins (Greenland, N.H.), sophomore forward Emma Cahoon (Keene, N.H.) and freshman forward Irini Stefanakos (Fitchburg, Mass.) tallied two goal apiece to lead the way for Keene State with Stefanakos also adding an assist. Junior midfielder Maggie Cahoon (Keene, N.H.) and freshman midfielder Grace Taylor (Goffstown, N.H.) both checked in with a goal and two assists for the Owls, while junior forward Chase Lambert (West Suffield, Conn.) also found the back of the net.

Sophomore goalkeeper Victoria Watson (Greenland, N.H.) did not face a shot over 45 minutes of work to earn the win between the pipes for the hosts. Freshman Ashley Enis (Westford, Mass.) came on in relief to start the fourth quarter and made one save.

Freshman netminder Emily Ronan (North Billerica, Mass.) turned aside nine shots in the setback for Bridgewater State.

The Little East schedule continues for both teams on Wednesday evening. The Bears host Framingham State University at seven o'clock, while the Owls travel to Salem State University for a six o'clock game with the Vikings.
