Thomas Fay Named MASCAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University senior kicker and punter Thomas Fay has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Special Teams Player of the Week.

Fay, who hails from Raynham, Massachusetts, was a perfect 5-for-5 in point after tries and averaged 41.0 yards on four punts with a long of 56 and two inside the 20 in the Bears’ 35-7 victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy in the 42nd Annual Cranberry Bowl. 

In ten games this season, Fay converted 29 of 31 (94%) extra points and averaged 40.4 yards on 39 punts with seven inside the 20 and a long of 61. He leads the MASCAC in punting average and ranks third in punting yards (1,574). Fay is also third among conference kickers in made PATs and PAT conversion percentage. His 61-yard punt on October 2nd against Fitchburg State University tied for the second longest punt in the MASCAC this season.

Fay is currently tied for ninth in all of Division III in punting average.

In 20 games over two seasons with the Bears, Fay converted 61 of 71 (86%) extra point attempts and punted 44 times for 1,729 yards (39.3 avg.).

The BSU football team wrapped up the 2021 season with an overall record of 6-4 including a 6-2 mark in the MASCAC. The Bears finished in a tie for second place in the conference standings.
