Adam Couch Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District® One Football Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior running back Adam Couch has been selected to the 2021 Academic All-District® One Division III Football Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Couch is the ninth different member of the BSU football program to earn the CoSIDA Academic All-District® honor. He joins teammate Michael Rosa (2020), David Coakley (2020), Travis Bassett (2015), Martyn Voorhis (2014), Alex Monteiro (2012), Justin Lima (2007, 2008), Russell Booth (2002, 2003) and Nicholas Bosh (2002).

Of the 24 District One honorees, Couch is one of only two student-athletes from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) to be voted to the team. District One is comprised of Massachusetts and Maine. Junior defensive lineman Hugh Wells of Massachusetts Maritime Academy also earned the accolade.

To be eligible for all-academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or a key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-December.

Couch currently sports an impressive 3.70 grade point average as he is majoring in economics with a minor in accounting and finance. The Winchendon, Massachusetts product was named to the Dean's List in each of his first two semesters at Bridgewater State and was selected to the MASCAC Fall/Winter All-Academic Team in 2020.

Couch, who transferred from Assumption College prior to the 2020-2021 academic year, started each of the Bears first nine games this fall before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He carried the ball 167 times for 1,020 yards and 13 touchdowns despite missing most of two games due to the injury, and became the ninth different running back in BSU football history to crack the 1,000-yard rushing barrier for a season.

Couch is currently ranked 21st in all of NCAA Division III in rushing yards per game (113.3) and is tied for 28th in rushing touchdowns. He also leads the MASCAC in rushing yards, ranks second in rushing touchdowns and is tied for third among the conference leaders in scoring with 78 points.

Earlier this week, Couch was named as a first team selection on the 2021 All-MASCAC Football Team. He was also selected as the MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week back on September 26th and again on October 10th.
