Brendan Albert Named MASCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University junior linebacker Brendan Albert has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Defensive Player of the Week.

A native of Canton, Massachusetts, Albert returned a fumble 26 yards for a touchdown and recorded a game-high 13 tackles (five solo), including 1 1/2 sacks, to go along with one pass breakup in the Bears’ 49-13 MASCAC win on the road over Worcester State University. Albert's touchdown marked his second scoop and score of the season.

Through six games this season, Albert has recorded 70 tackles (40 solo), 9 1/2 tackles for loss, 2 1/2 sacks, three forced fumbles and two recovered fumble. He currently leads the MASCAC in tackles and forced fumbles, and is tied for the league lead in recovered fumbles. Albert also ranks second among the conference leaders in both solo tackles and tackles for loss, and is tied for sixth in sacks.

Albert also earned MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors back on September 19th.

The BSU football team is currently 4-2 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in the MASCAC. Following a bye week, Bridgewater State will welcome conference foe Westfield State University to Swenson Field for the Bears' Homecoming Game on Saturday, October 23rd at four o'clock.
