BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior linebacker Brendan Albert has been selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week for his outstanding effort in the Bears' 49-13 win against Worcester State University this past weekend.

A native of Canton, Massachusetts, Albert returned a fumble 26 yards for a touchdown and recorded a game-high 13 tackles (five solo), including 1 1/2 sacks, to go along with one pass breakup in the Bears’ Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over the Lancers. Albert's touchdown marked his second scoop and score of the season.

Through six games this season, Albert has recorded 70 tackles (40 solo), 9 1/2 tackles for loss, 2 1/2 sacks, three forced fumbles and two recovered fumble. He currently leads the MASCAC in tackles and forced fumbles, and is tied for the league lead in recovered fumbles. Albert also ranks second among the conference leaders in both solo tackles and tackles for loss, and is tied for sixth in sacks.

Earlier this week, Albert was named the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Albert is only the second linebacker in program history to earn D3football.com Team of the Week honors joining former Bear Ben McMahon (2019). 

The BSU football team is currently 4-2 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in the MASCAC. Following a bye week, Bridgewater State will welcome conference foe Westfield State University to Swenson Field for the Bears' Homecoming Game on Saturday, October 23rd at four o'clock.
