Brian Smith Named NEFC Special Teams Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior placekicker Brian Smith has been selected as the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Special Teams Player of the Week.

A native of Lowell, Massachusetts, Smith booted a 30-yard field goal which proved to be the difference in the game as the Bears downed Plymouth State 10-7 this past Saturday. He also converted his only PAT of the game.

Smith, who is in his third season with the Bears, is 4-for-4 in extra point attempts this year and 1-for-2 in field goal tries.  He also starts at cornerback and has recorded three tackles (two solo) over the first two games.  Bridgewater is a perfect 2-0 to start the year heading into Saturday’s NEFC Bogan Division opener at Framingham State.

In 17 career games, Smith has successfully converted 15 of 18 point after tries and also has 24 tackles (22 solo), two interceptions, a pass breakup and a forced and recovered fumble to his credit.
