Trey Yesu Named MASCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore righthander Trey Yesu has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Yesu tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout with three walks and seven strikeouts this past weekend in the Bears’ 22-0 MASCAC win over MCLA. The Monson, Massachusetts product took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Trailblazers.

In nine appearances for the Bears this season, including eight starts, Yesu sports a 4-2 record with one shutout and a 3.14 earned run average. He has fanned 42 batters over 48 2/3 innings of work, and opponents are batting .262 against him.

Yesu is tied for fourth among the MASCAC leaders in wins and ranks fifth in both ERA and innings pitched as well as sixth in strikeouts. He is also tied for sixth in games started and is seventh in the conference in strikeouts per nine innings (7.77) and WHIP (1.34).

In 22 career appearances (ten starts) over his first two seasons with the Bears, Yesu has produced seven wins with 66 strikeouts and a 3.52 ERA over 79 1/3 innings.

The MASCAC Pitcher of the Week honor marks the first of Yesu's career.

The BSU baseball team is currently 20-13 on the season and 12-6 in the MASCAC standings. The Bears entertain Wentworth on Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock.
