Joshua Selander Named MASCAC Baseball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore first baseman Joshua Selander has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Player of the Week.

Selander batted .563 (9-16) with his first three collegiate home runs to go along with a pair of doubles, three walks, ten runs and 14 RBI in a perfect 5-0 week for the Bears. The Granby, Connecticut native also posted a .571 on base percentage as well as an impressive 1.250 slugging percentage, and flawlessly recorded 37 chances (35 put outs, two assists) at first base.

Selander went 7-for-8 with three home runs, two doubles, two walks, nine runs and 12 RBI in a three-game MASCAC sweep of MCLA. He also drove in two runs with a pair of sacrifice flies and added a walk and a run in a 20-7 non-conference win over Lasell.

In 20 games this season, Selander is batting .317 (13-41) with three home runs, a pair of doubles, five walks, 15 runs and 16 RBI. He has also been hit by a pitch and checks in with a .388 on base percentage as well as a .585 slugging percentage.

In 48 games over his first two seasons with the Bears, Selander has a career batting average of .327 (37-113) with three home runs, eight doubles, a triple, 20 walks, 27 runs and 32 RBI.

The MASCAC Player of the Week accolade marks the first of Selander's career.

The BSU baseball team is currently 20-13 on the season and 12-6 in the MASCAC standings. The Bears entertain Wentworth on Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock.
