Scott Emerson Named MASCAC Baseball Player & Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman second baseman Scott Emerson has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Player and Rookie of the Week.

Emerson batted .455 (5-11) with four runs scored and one RBI in three games during the MASCAC Tournament as he helped the Bears captured their first conference title since 2012 and sixth overall. The Peabody, Massachusetts product was also hit by a pitch twice and recorded a sacrifice bunt as he posted a .538 on base percentage.

Emerson went 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch and run scored in a 3-0 quarterfinal round win over Salem State, and 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI in a 14-7 semifinal round victory over Mass. Maritime. He also laid down a sacrifice bunt, was hit by a pitch and scored the game-winning run in the Bears’ 7-4 championship game win over the Buccaneers.

Through 43 games this season, Emerson is batting .371 (59-159) with eight doubles, a triple, 18 walks, 31 stolen bases, 43 runs and 32 RBI. He has also been hit by a pitch three times, notched three sacrifice flies and a pair of sacrifice bunts, and checks in with a .437 on base percentage.

Emerson currently leads the MASCAC and is tied for 11th in all of Division III with his 31 stolen bases. He also ranks second among the conference leaders in both hits and at bats, third in runs scored, fifth in batting average and seventh in total bases, RBI and sacrifice flies.

Emerson has earned MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors three times this season and MASCAC Player of the Week accolades twice.

The BSU baseball team is currently 30-13 on the season. Bridgewater went 3-0 during the MASCAC Tournament to capture the conference crown and earn the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Bears will compete in the NCAA Tournament for the 15th time in program history and first since 2012. Bridgewater will head to SUNY Cortland in Cortland, New York later this week for regional play. The Bears will take on the host Red Dragons on Friday afternoon (tba) in the opening round of the four-team regional tournament.
