54 Bears Named to Little East Fall Academic Honor Roll

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Fifty-four Bridgewater State University student-athletes have been named to the Little East Conference (LEC) Academic Honor Roll for the fall 2021 semester.

The 54 BSU student-athletes include 15 field hockey players, 13 members of the men's swimming & diving team, ten representatives from the women's swimming & diving squad, nine members of the women's tennis team and seven men's tennis players.

To be named the LEC Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a fall semester GPA of 3.00 or better and have been an active member of the team at the conclusion of the season.

Receiving the honor as members of the field hockey team are seniors Victoria Camara (Westport, Mass.), Aidan Ryan (Uxbridge, Mass.) and Katie Swart (Bridgewater, Mass.); juniors Sophia Morse (West Bridgwater, Mass.), Jordyn Perry (Nantucket, Mass.), Emma Schoonover (Somerset, Mass.), Olivia Sheehan (Hanson, Mass.) and Bailey Turner (Dedham, Mass.); sophomores Zoe Bergeron (Blackstone, Mass.), Carolyn Greendale (Natick, Mass.), Charlotte McElroy (Carver, Mass.), Erin Power (Byfield, Mass.), Hannah Rolfe (Easton, Mass.) and Kelly Sharkey (Salisbury, Mass.); and freshman Hailey McFall (Wind Gap, Pa.).

Men's swimming & diving student athletes to earn the accolade are seniors Bryan Abbott (Taunton, Mass.) and Kyle Chaney (Torrance, Calif.); juniors Chris Anastasiades (Wakefield, Mass.), Luc Durand (Marblehead, Mass.) and Thomas Scalese (Chelmsford, Mass.); sophomores Cooper Castellone (South Windsor, Conn.), Brennan Gravanda (Wilbraham, Mass.), Joseph Pervier (Baldwinville, Mass.), Derek Platteel (Dunstable, Mass.) and Connor Young (Chelmsford, Mass.); and freshmen Owen Lasbury-Casey (Mansfield, Mass.), Thomas Roch (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Chase Simao (Stonington, Conn.).

Reprsenting the women's swimming & diving team are graduate student Alexa Wilson (Centerville, Mass.); seniors Ripley Devers (North Attleboro, Mass.), Jordyn Maxim (Lakeville, Mass.) and Danielle Vissering (North Andover, Mass.); junior Alex Molinari (Chelmsford, Mass.); sophomores Renee Goodale (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) and Lily Morrison (Marshfield, Mass.); and freshmen Brianna Matte (Cumberland, R.I.), Brynn Murray (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Evelyn Olson (Phillipston, Mass.).

The nine women's tennis student-athletes on the academic honor roll are graduate student Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.); senior Vanessa Rosa (Taunton, Mass.); juniors Catie Ledwidge (Somerset, Mass.), Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) and Brianna Venditti (North Smithfield, R.I.); sophomores Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) and Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.); and freshmen Rebecca Hamel (Windham, Maine) and Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.).

Rounding out the Bears' LEC Academic Honor Roll selections, from the men's tennis team, are seniors Darius Desnoes (Ithaca, N.Y.), Colin Lamusta (Lynnfield, Mass.), Sean Nutter (Mattapoisett, Mass.), Jeff Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) and Kendan Ziegler (Hadley, Mass.); junior Cameron Doherty (Milford, Mass.); and freshman Charles Malinowski (East Bridgewater, Mass.).

All told, 1,963 Little East Conference student-athletes competing in the conference’s 21 championship sports were named to the LEC Academic Honor Roll in recognition of their academic performance in the Fall 2021 semester.

The Academic Honor Roll was one of two new academic recognition programs (along with the LEC Team Academic Awards) introduced by the Little East prior to the 2019 fall season. While the majority of Bridgewater State varsity squads are members of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC), field hockey, women's swimming & diving, mens swimming & diving, women's tennis and men's tennis call the Little East home.
