Paul Sargent

Paul Sargent was an outstanding basketball player at Bridgewater State College from 1955 to 1958. At the time of his graduation, he was the men's basketball team's all-time leading scorer (since surpassed) with 1,200 career points. During the 1957-58 campaign, Paul was team captain and set a then school scoring record of 450 points for a season. Paul pursued his love of sports after graduation becoming an outstanding educator, basketball coach and Director of Athletics at West Bridgewater High School from 1964-87. In his 22 years of coaching at WBHS his basketball teams won five South shore League Championships and 10 Mayflower League titles.

An outstanding golfer, Paul was a six-time Club Champion at Brockton Country club. Following his passing in 1987, Paul was elected to the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. The gymnasium at West Bridgewater High School was also renamed in his honor. He is survived by his wife, Doris, who now resides in N. Easton, MA.
