Derek Viveiros was named the Assistant Director of Athletics and Recreation for Fiscal Operations at Bridgewater State University in October 2022. He will be responsible to assist in the planning, organizing, and directing of the athletics and recreation program including coordinating all fiscal  operations of the department including budget development and supervision, fundraising initiatives, and ticketing.

Viveiros Joins the Bears after spending 12 years as the Director of Athletics and Recreation at Bristol Community College from 2010 - 2022. During his time at Bristol the department saw tremendous growth as he led efforts in implementing seven varsity athletics programs and expanding recreational opportunities across all Bristol locations. In addition to the growth of programs, Viveiros expanded the departments human resources with the addition of a student-athlete academic coordinator, a department wide recruiting coordinator, and an athletic trainer.

In 2015, Viveiros led an 18-month rebranding process including all community stakeholders, which resulted in the transition of the college’s nickname from the Bee’s to the Bayhawks. He also, oversaw the implementation of a presto sports website to promote the Bayhawk brand.

Derek created the first ever Bristol Athletics Foundation, raising funds to support student-athlete success.   In 2019, Athletics and Recreation took charge of the college’s golf tournament and in 2021 the newly named Birdies for Bayhawks Golf Tournament had a record setting year, raising more money than in the tournaments’ previous twenty-five- year history.

Bristol also experienced athletic success during Viveiros’ time at the helm earning their way to five national tournament appearances, three regional championships, and thirty-three regional tournament appearances.

In addition, he served as the NJCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Committee Chair, a member of the DIII Women’s Soccer Committee, NJCAA Racial Equality Committee, Region XXI Director, and a member of the National Association of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators Executive Committee.

He resides in Swansea, MA with his wife Angelet and their son’s Aiden and Camden.
