Volleyball Posts 3-0 Win over MCLA on Senior Day

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-16) Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over visiting MCLA on Senior Day at the Tinsley Center. The match marked the regular season finale for both teams.

The Bears improve to 10-14 on the season and 4-2 in the MASCAC, while the Trailblazers fall to 18-10 overall and 4-3 in conference play. Bridgewater State is seeded third in next week's MASCAC Tournament and will host #6 Salem State University in a first round match on Tuesday evening at six. MCLA is the #4 seed and will entertain #5 Worcester State University also on Tuesday night.

Junior middle hitter Sydney Rice (Medway, Mass.) notched a match-high ten kills and  a .409 hitting percentage to lead the way for the Bears. Junior setter Casey Holmes (Norton, Mass.) checked in with a match-best 27 assists to go along with seven digs and a kill, while freshman libero Victoria Caiano (New Bedford, Mass.) notched 14 digs, three assists and an ace, and junior outside hitter Gabryella Serrano (Bridgewater, Mass.) tallied six kills, nine digs and an ace.

Senior middle blocker Shannon Grindle (Halifax, Mass.) was honored prior to the start of the match. Grindle finished with three kills, three aces, three digs and a solo block in the Senior Day victory.

The Bears posted a .235 hitting percentage as they notched 36 kills with 12 attacking errors. The Trailblazers made nearly as many attacking errors (30) as they had kills (31).

Sophomores Laiken Cornwell-L'Hote (Dalton, Mass.) and Ahna Schlaefer (Lee, Mass.) paced the Trailblazers with eight kills apiece. Schlaefer also recorded three aces. Senior setter Tessa Sestito (Corona, Calif.) added 23 assists, and junior libero Natasha Stewart (North Andover, Mass.) contributed a match-high 17 digs.
