Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. -- The Lasell College women's volleyball team swept visiting Bridgewater State University, 3-0, in a non-conference match on Tuesday evening at the Lasell Athletic Center.

The Lasers pulled out a tight first set, 28-26, and then put the match away with 25-12 and 25-17 decisions in the next two sets. Lasell has won nine of its last 11 matches to improve to 13-14 overall, while Bridgewater State drops to 4-15.

Freshman Kiana Perez (Juncos, P.R.) finished with a match-high 12 kills and 14 digs along with six service aces and a .276 attack percentage to lead the way for Lasell, while senior Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) added eight winners and nine digs. Sophomore Allie Jo Amos (Prescott, Ariz.) posted 12 digs, freshman Jess Langan (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) made 29 set assists, and freshman Meghan Roberts (Newington, Conn.) was good for three blocks.

Senior Kayla Baril (Seekonk, Mass.) led the Bears with ten kills and 12 digs, and sophomore Casey Holmes (Norton, Mass.) finished with 19 assists. Three BSU players reached double figures in digs, sophomore Maggie Czarniak (Halifax, Mass.) with 13, Baril with 12, and sophomore Abigail Garner (Holden, Mass.) with ten.

BSU appeared headed to victory in the first set with a 24-19 lead, but Lasell battled back to tie the score at 24-all. The teams traded set points before the Lasers recorded three points in a row to take the set, 28-26.

The second set was close, with the home team leading 13-10, but the Lasers put up seven straight points to open up a double-digit lead, 20-10. The Bears couldn't recover and Lasell took the set, 25-12. Lasell took the lead early in the third set and slowly pulled away to another 20-10 margin before finishing off the match, 25-17.

The Lasers will wrap up the regular season this weekend with a trip to Saratoga Springs, N.Y., for the Skidmore College Invitational. Lasell will meet host Skidmore and SUNY New Paltz on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., respectively, and will face Potsdam State and Union College on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon. Bridgewater State will conclude its regular season Saturday at home with an 11:00 a.m. matchup against Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe Salem State University.
