Andrews Leads Women’s Track & Field at Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational

FITCHBURG, Mass. -- Senior Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) won two events to lead the Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team on Saturday at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State University.

Andrews captured top honors in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. She posted season-best times of 14.61 seconds in the 100 hurdles and 1:04.58 in the 400 hurdles.

Fellow senior Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) also earned a win for the Bears as she placed first in the shot put with a season-best toss of 43 feet, 4.5 inches (13.22m).

Andrews currently ranks ninth in all of Division III in the 100 hurdles and 21st in the 400 hurdles, while Gilbreath is 15th in the shot put. Andrews qualified for the Division III New England Championships and the NEICAAA Championships on the 400 hurdles.

Senior Patricia Healion (Medford, Mass.), juniors Allison Beaudoin (Sturbridge, Mass.) and Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.), and sophomore Ashley Garvey (Woburn, Mass.) each added second place performances for the Bears. Healion recorded a mark of four feet, 11 inches (1.50m) in the triple jump, while Beaudoin threw the javelin 112 feet, five inches (34.26m). Madden posted a time of 5:02.76 in the 1,500-meter run, and Garvey tossed the discus 118 feet, one inch (35.99m).

Garvey qualified for DIII New Englands in the discus.

The Bears' 4x800-meter relay squad featuring Madden, classmates Jessica Haywood (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.), and sophomore Sansha Alexis (Brockton, Mass.) placed second in the event with a time of 10:50.67.

Freshman Camille Hanna (Milton, Vt.) tied for fourth in the pole vault (7'6.5"/2.30m), while senior Molly McNamara (Hull, Mass.) placed fifth in the triple jump (34'3"/10.44m) and Haywood finished fifth in the 800-meter run (2:32.46).

The Bears finished fourth in the team standings at the meet with 103 points. Keene State College won the team title with 146 points, while the University of New Haven (133.5 pts.) and Rhode Island College (124 pts.) rounded out the top three teams.

Several members of the BSU women's outdoor track & field team will compete next Friday at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College. The Bears will also compete next Saturday at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State University.
