Women’s Indoor Track & Field Places Second at MASCAC Championships

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's track & field team placed second at the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships held at Plymouth State University on Saturday.

Bridgewater State amassed 147 team points as the Bears edged Worcester State University (142 pts.) in the MASCAC standings. Westfield State University (262 pts.) won the conference championship, while Fitchburg State University (26 pts.) finished fourth.

Six different Bears captured individual MASCAC titles led by junior Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) who placed first in both the mile run and the 3,000-meter run. Madden posted times of 5:18.56 in the mile and 10:48.04 in the 3,000.

Seniors Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.), Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah), Emily Guyon (Hopedale, Mass.), Patricia Healion (Medford, Mass.) and Molly McNamara (Hull, Mass.) also earned the title of MASCAC champion for the Bears.

Andrews won the 60-meter hurdles with a finals time of 8.86 seconds, while Gilbreath recorded a toss of 41 feet, 9.75 inches (12.74m) to win the shot put. Guyon was the first MASCAC runner to cross the finish line in the 800-meter run as she posted a time of 2:31.06, while Healion jumped four feet, 11 inches (1.50m) to win the high jump. McNamara recorded a leap of 35 feet, two inches (10.72) to place first in the triple jump.

Senior Madeline McNamara (Hull, Mass.) finished third in the 60-meter dash as she tied her own school record with a finals time of 8.14 seconds. Traci Perry originally set the BSU indoor mark back in 2016 while McNamara has now tied it three times including twice this season.

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU women's indoor track & field team will compete at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Bowdoin College.
