Gilbreath Sets BSU Shot Put Mark at Jerry Gravel Classic

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Junior Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) set the school record in the shot put to lead the Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State University on Saturday.

Gilbreath posted a distance of 43 feet, 2.5 inches (13.17m) to capture top honors at the meet. She eclipsed Sydney Bennett's previous BSU outdoor mark of 42 feet, 11.75 inches (13.10m) set just last season.

Gilbreath also finished second in the hammer throw with a season-best toss of 141 feet, nine inches (43.20m). She qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the hammer.

Junior Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) won the meet title in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, three inches (4.95m). Andrews also placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.31.

Junior Patricia Healion (Medford, Mass.) added a second place showing in the high jump with a height of five feet, 0.5 inches (1.54m), while sophomore Kelsey McDonald (Foxboro, Mass.) finished sixth overall (5'0.5"/1.54m) in the event. McDonald qualified for DIII New Englands in the high jump.

Sophomore Molly Dewar (Grafton, Mass.) placed third in the shot put and qualified for DIII New Englands with a career-best throw of 38 feet, 1.25 inches (11.61m). She also finished fourth in the discus (115'1"/36.09m).

Sophomore Allison Beaudoin (Sturbridge, Mass.) grabbed third place in the javelin and qualified for DIII New Englands with a career-best heave of 113 feet, six inches (34.61m).

Bridgewater placed fourth in the team standings with 85 points. Host Westfield won the meet with 137 points, while Worcester State University (104 pts.) and Utica College (101 pts.) rounded out the top three.

Next Friday, the Bears will compete at the 11th Annual Eastern Invitational hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University.
