Women's Tennis Falls to Roger Williams, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Thursday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts.

The host Hawks remain unbeaten on the season as they improve to 6-0, while the visiting Bears fall to 2-4.

Roger Williams captured all three doubles matches and swept the six singles flights.

Freshman Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) posted a 6-3, 6-1 win at top singles flight. Cahoon also teamed with junior Heidi Martin (Scituate, Mass.) for a tough 8-6 decision over BSU freshman Sailor Nordstrom (New Bedford, Mass.) and senior Emma Mills (Westport, Mass.) at number one doubles.

Seniors Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and Jessica Magliato (New Rochelle, N.Y.) breezed to an 8-0 victory at second doubles, while freshman Emma Place (Francestown, N.H.) and senior Riley Spillane (Easton, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-4 triumph at the third spot.

Roche also earned a 6-2, 6-2 straight set decision at second singles, while Place won in straight sets at number four, 6-1, 6-2, and Spillane notched a 6-3, 6-1 straight set victory at the sixth flight.

Junior Morgan Crimmins (Boston, Mass.) also cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 straight set win at the fifth flight.

The Bears will compete at the 35th Annual Newport Grass Court Double Tournament held on Friday (1:00 PM) at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The Hawks travel to Wentworth on Saturday for a noontime Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match with the Leopards.
