BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University freshman Vanessa Rosa has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week.

A native of Taunton, Massachusetts, Rosa went 2-1 in both singles and doubles play in three matches for the Bears last week.

Rosa posted a 6-0, 6-1 straight set win over her sixth flight singles opponent from Suffolk University and paired with sophomore, and fellow Taunton native, Olivia Sweeney for an 8-4 win at third doubles to lead the Bears to a 6-3 victory over the Rams.

In a 5-4 Little East setback to Worcester State University, Rosa moved up a spot to earn a 6-2, 6-2 straight set triumph at number five singles. She also teamed with Sweeney for an 8-0 win at third doubles.

Through four matches this season, Rosa is 2-2 in singles competition and 2-1 in doubles play.

The BSU women’s tennis team is currently 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in the Little East. In upcoming action, the Bears travel to conference foe UMass Boston on Tuesday afternoon for a three o’clock match with the Beacons.
