Women's Tennis Falls to RIC, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The defending Little East Conference (LEC) champion Rhode Island College women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over host Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Anchorwomen remain unbeaten on the season as they improve to 8-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Little East. The Bears fall to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

RIC swept the three doubles matches and captured each of the six singles flights.

Sophomore Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, R.I.) highlighted the win for the Anchorwomen. Zangari won in straight sets at the top singles flight, 6-4, 6-3, and teamed with classmate Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, R.I.) for an 8-1 decision at second doubles.

Sophomore Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.) had the best showing for Bridgewater State as she dropped a tough 6-4, 7-5 decision to RIC sophomore Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, Mass.) at the second singles flight.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for a three o'clock  Little East contest with the Corsairs. The Anchorwomen entertain conference rival UMass Boston on Monday at 3:30.
