Women's Tennis Falls to Johnson & Wales, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Johnson & Wales University women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory over Bridgewater State University on Tuesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Wildcats improve to 3-1 on the season, while the host Bears fall to 0-2.

Johnson & Wales won each of the three doubles flights and swept the six singles matches. The single matches were also played in a pro set format due to an hour long lightning delay.

Senior Delaney Macchirole (Greenport, N.Y.) and freshman Kourtney Moore (Roswell, Georgia) paired up for an 8-4 win at first doubles. Macchirole also posted an 8-0 triumph at the third singles flight, while Moore also cruised to an 8-0 victory at fourth singles.

Sophomore Claire Parry (Westport, Conn.) teamed with freshman Drew Bobey (Charlestown, S.C.) for an 8-0 win at second flight doubles. Parry added an 8-0 victory in the battle of the top flight singles players, while Bobey breezed to an 8-0 win at fifth singles.

Senior Lauren Torre (New Fairfield, Conn.) and junior Gabriela Velazquez (La Romana, D.R.) also posted wins in singles play at the second and sixth flights, respectively, for the Wildcats. Senior Victoria Pizzulo (Lafayette, N.J.) and freshman Lily Votta (Scituate, R.I.).

The Bears third flight tandem of sophomore Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.) and freshman Vanessa Rosa (Taunton, Mass.) played well in a setback at third flight doubles as the duo dropped a tough 8-6 decision to senior Victoria Pizzulo (Lafayette, N.J.) and freshman Lily Votta (Scituate, R.I.).

Both teams are back in action on Thursday afternoon. The Bears entertain the Rams of Suffolk University at three, while the Wildcats travel to UMass Dartmouth for a 3:30 match with the Corsairs.
