Women's Tennis Edged by UMass Dartmouth, 5-4

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Little East Conference (LEC) rival UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon at the UMD Tennis Courts.

The host Corsairs improve to 5-2 on the season and 3-1 in the Little East, while the Bears fall to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Bridgewater led 2-1 after doubles play. Seniors Bojana Roman (Somerset, Mass.) and Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, Mass.) earned an 8-3 win at second doubles, while junior Rachel Tarantino (Mansfield, Mass.) and sophomore Angelique Gray (Osterville, Mass.) posted an 8-6 triumph at the third flight.

In singles play, Roman added a 6-2, 6-1 straight set victory at the second spot, while Scagnelli battled back from a set down at number three to post a 5-7, 6-0, 6-0 decision.

The Corsairs, however, picked up wins at the first, fourth, fifth and sixth flights to take the match. Junior Jenna Lahaie (Lakeville, Mass.) clinched the key conference victory with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 triumph at the top flight. 

Both teams are back in action on Thursday afternoon. UMass travels to Salem State University for a 3:30 LEC match with the Vikings, while Bridgewater State entertains non-conference foe Clark University at three.
