Women's Swimming & Diving Downs Gordon

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team competed against Gordon College on Saturday at the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears place first in 11 of the 12 events led by senior Mackenzie Coogan (Assonet, Mass.) and junior Allison Hunt (Norton, Mass.).

Coogan captured top honors in both the 50 freestyle (25.71) and the 100 freestyle (58.37). She also swam a leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay squad along with sophomores Danielle Vissering (North Andover, Mass.) and Makayla Paquin (North Easton, Mass.), and senior Megan Bonney (Hoffman Estates, Ill.). The foursome posted a time of 4:00.33.

Hunt was the first to touch the wall in the 400 individual medley (5:12.86) and the 100 breaststroke (1:16.70). The Bears' quartet of sophomore Selin Marino (East Greenwich, R.I.), Hunt, freshman Hannah Geoffrion (Barnstable, Mass.) and Vissering placed first in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:34.21.

Bonney, Paquin and Geoffrion added individual wins in the 200 freestyle (2:12.19), 100 backstroke (1:07.59) and 500 freestyle (6:06.13), respectively.

Senior Alexa Wilson (Centerville, Mass.) won the one-meter diving competition with a season-best score of 208.00 points.

Senior Jane Meyrick (Scituate, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' individual event winners as she placed first in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 12:55.55.

The Bears are off until next Saturday when they travel to Elms College for an 11 AM meet with the Blazers.
