Women's Swimming & Diving Cruises Past Elms, 141-86

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team posted a 141-86 victory over host Elms College on Saturday at the Partyka Natatorium.

The visiting Bears improve to 4-5 in dual meet competition on the season with their second straight win, while the Blazers fall to 1-2.

Eight different BSU swimmers won individual events at the Blazers' 25-meter pool. Junior Nicole Moneghan (Lincoln, R.I.) captured top honors in the 200-meter freestyle (2:29.94), while freshman Katherine Werra (East Taunton, Mass.) placed first in the 50 backstroke (36.51) and junior Madison Damphousse (Marshfield, Mass.) was the first to touch the wall in the 50 breaststroke (42.14). Rounding out the Bears' event winners were senior Becca Foster (Billerica, Mass.) in the 50 freestyle (31.79), junior Haley Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) in the 100 freestyle (1:06.17), senior Amanda Brennen (Waltham, Mass.) in the 100 breaststroke (1:28.55), sophomore Mackenzie Coogan (Assonet, Mass.) in the 400 freestyle (5:08.90) and senior Abbie Grant (Mansfield, Mass.) in the 50 butterfly (34.29).

The Bears' foursome of Nolan, Brennen, Grant and junior Danielle Souza (Mansfield, Mass.) opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay (2:21.56).

Grant, Coogan, Souza and Nolan recorded the top time in the 200 freestyle relay (2:04.45) to close out the meet.

Freshman Brittany North (Palmer, Mass.) highlighted the Elms squad with a trio of first place performances in the 100 individual medley (1:20.16), 100 butterfly (1:20.15) and 100 backstroke (1:18.88).

The Bears are off until Saturday, January 20th when they travel to Keene State College for a tri-meet with the host Owls and Brandeis University.
